About

Leonardo Sotiris Cardinale

Welcome!

I’m Leonardo — a PhD student in theoretical high energy physics at the Laboratoire de Physique de l’École Normale Supérieure in Paris (LPENS). My work is conducted within the Fields, Gravity and Strings group, under the supervision of Miguel Paulos and as part of the FunBootS project. Most days I’m thinking about quantum field theory, anti-de Sitter spacetime, and other things that are as mysterious as they are fun to draw on blackboards.

I’m French by birth, Greek from my mother, and American from my father (if you’re wondering about my name, it comes from the Italian-American side of the family). I grew up speaking French, English, and Greek. Later I added Italian — which I’m very comfortable with — and Spanish, which, despite studying for twice as many years, I speak a little less confidently.

Before physics took over, I spent a lot of time on stage — acting in French and English, performing amateur musical theater, and playing piano. I’m still a language-learning addict and have a soft spot for ancient history — whether that’s finishing the latest non-fiction book I’ve picked up or stopping mid-walk to read an inscription.

I’ve set up this website to archive the work I did during my master’s, collect useful notes I’ve written over the last couple of years, and start my PhD on a good footing. Some notes or code may still be rough around the edges, and there are surely typos or small mistakes. If you spot anything, feel free to reach out!
